CONCORD, N.C. -- Jeremy Mayfield led flag-to-flag Saturday night to win his second career Winston Open at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, qualifying him for The Winston all-star race later Saturday evening.

Starting from the pole, Mayfield was never challenged in leading the entire 30-lap event as he qualified for The Winston for the fifth time in his career. Mayfield also won the Winston Open in 1998.

In addition, he picked up $54,326 for the win.

Ken Schrader was impressive in the Open, finishing just behind Mayfield in second place. That put him in excellent position for the upcoming No Bull Sprint.

The race’s only glitch came on lap 11, when Carl Long lost control of his Dodge in Turn 2 and backed into the outside wall.

Ryan Newman finished third, followed by Hut Stricklin and Kyle Petty.
